Remember the 1990s slogan that changed advertising forever? Nike’s “Just Do It.” Three little words that weren’t just about sneakers, but about motivation, determination, and action. It leapt from billboards into everyday conversation: “Just do it” became advice for almost anything in life.
Fast forward to today, and we’ve got another phrase that slipped into our daily lexicon: “Google it.” Need a recipe? Google it. Can’t remember an actor’s name? Google it. Even kids heading back to school know the drill. Google is often the first stop for homework help. It’s amazing how companies’ marketing lines become cultural shorthand for how we live. (It’s no wonder Google’s founding in 1996 is being remembered today, even as courts debate its monopolistic reach!)
But here’s the thing: faith and community don’t need a slogan to stick. We already have centuries of wisdom to guide us. You don’t have to “Google it” to know the value of worship, prayer, and fellowship. Instead, I invite you to “just do it.” Join us this Sunday, September 7th, at 9:30 AM.
We’ll gather as families prepare for a new school year, offering blessings for students and their backpacks. We’ll also celebrate our elders for Grandparents Day, giving thanks for the wisdom and love that guide our younger generations. Together, we’ll hear lessons from Deuteronomy 30:15-20 and Luke 14:25-33, ancient words still alive for today. (Of course, if you want to Google them ahead of time, I won’t stop you!)
So, this weekend, skip the search engine, leave the sneakers at the door, and bring your heart instead. Just do it. Worship with us.
