Most of us think of the year in terms of our four seasons: fall, winter, spring, and summer. But there’s one industry that celebrates its own “Big Four” seasons, which have nothing to do with the Earth’s orbit—the National Confectioners Association, which is gearing up for one of its biggest – Halloween! The others, of course, are Valentine’s Day, Easter, and the winter holidays. And right now, the industry is buzzing with excitement, as 80% of people celebrating Halloween plan to buy as much, if not more, candy than before. With Halloween just a week away, expect about $600 million worth of candy to fly off the shelves in the days leading up to the big night!
Speaking of candy, are you ready for the trick-or-treaters headed your way? An impressive 97% of Americans will be handing out sweets, and if you’re wondering how much is enough, two-thirds of homeowners usually give out 2-3 pieces per visitor. As for who might show up at your door, expect a lot of Spider-Men, as that’s predicted to be this year’s top costume!
Candy is a serious business—bigger than you might think. Here in New York, the candy industry generates a whopping $3.2 billion in economic output and employs nearly 11,000 people directly. Why such success? It turns out 78% of Americans believe sharing seasonal chocolates and candy is a cherished tradition, and 72% say these sweet treats are key to our emotional well-being.
But for a boost that’s even better for your emotional well-being (and won’t give you cavities!), we invite you to join us on Sunday, October 27, at 9:30 AM. Come enjoy the spiritual sweetness of Reformation Sunday—it’s guaranteed to leave you feeling filled in all the best ways!
