The Lone Ranger

by | Jul 18, 2024

The Lone Ranger is a fictional renegade lawman during the late 1880s in America’s rugged Western Frontier. The character is popularized in books, comics, radio, movies, and television as a masked man who roams the West to aid those in need, fight evil, and restore justice. While the hero, often only accompanied by his white stallion Silver, held a mystique for working alone, the Lone Ranger characterization of others today usually carries a negative connotation. Solo acts rarely provide measurable results.

Labeling someone a “Lone Ranger” usually implies the person works or acts alone or in an isolated manner. They generally do not consult with others or seek their approval. Successful Lone Rangers typically remain fictional characters. In real life, meaningful accomplishments are realized through collaboration.

Nonconformists do not enjoy the benefits of working together with others. When you gather with others, you gain diverse perspectives, share workloads and support, and create communication that boosts morale and motivation, helping everyone feel valued and integral to the community. This sense of belonging is crucial for problem-solving and enabling trusting relationships.

In the coming months, we will encourage the benefits of gathering and not being Lone Rangers. It is easy to overlook the importance of engagement. We may take advantage of being part of a thriving village. Other communities are isolated, with relatively little interaction among their people and businesses. That is not the case in Lindenhurst. This village is a place of excitement, thriving to bring the best out in everyone. We are all eagerly looking forward to the rescheduled “Wednesday on Wellwood,” one of the village’s popular gatherings (last night was postponed due to threatening dangerous thunderstorms). This community block party, which has outdoor dining, music, and vendors, is organized by our local chamber of commerce and Village Hall. The mission of our business and government leaders is to inspire the growth of Lindenhurst by working together. We encourage you to gather for this rescheduled event next Wednesday, July 24th on Wellwood Avenue, between 4:00 and 9:00 PM. There will be no need for any Lone Rangers.

We will continue to promote the importance of gathering for our faith community. Kemosabe, why not join us for worship on Sunday, July 21st, at 9:30 AM? Together, we can grow at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 36 East John Street, Lindenhurst, far more than any Lone Ranger ever could. A bulletin is attached.

Blessings,
Pastor Marc
