When Christmas Feels Heavy

by | Dec 30, 2025

On New Year’s Day, much of the world celebrates fresh starts, clean slates, and bold resolutions. The calendar flips, the ball has dropped, and we are expected to feel renewed. Yet for many, January 1 arrives not with excitement, but with fatigue and perhaps a quiet sense of dread over everything we think we should fix next.

The truth is, not everyone experiences this season as “the most wonderful time of the year.” The days surrounding Christmas and New Year’s can magnify grief, loneliness, exhaustion, and worry. Added to that are resolutions we make for ourselves, often well-intentioned, that can feel like one more burden piled onto already heavy lives.

The Church offers a different rhythm. Christmas does not end on December 25. We continue to celebrate the Twelve Days of Christmas through the Epiphany of Our Lord on January 6, when we remember Christ revealed as light for the whole world. This sacred pause gently resists our culture’s urgency to move on, reminding us that God’s work unfolds in God’s time, not ours.

Scripture never pretends that faith erases pain. We worship a Savior who wept, who knew loss, and who entered a broken world not to escape suffering, but to meet us within it. The good news of Christmas is not forced cheer or instant self-improvement; God promises to dwell with us, especially in our longest nights.

If this season has left you weary, emotionally, physically, or spiritually, I invite you to join us for our Blue Christmas Service of Healing on Sunday, January 4, at 9:30 AM. This quiet, reflective service offers space for honesty, prayer, and hope.

You do not need to keep a resolution or have it all together. You only need to come as you are.

You are welcome. Always.

Blessings,

Pastor Marc
